PROJECT START¶
The prerequisites for project success are created in the initial phases. The project start is the most important sub-process of project management, as the foundations for the subsequent sub-processes are laid in this project phase. Essentially, it is the entrepreneurial decision to realise a project idea as a project. The project objectives are confirmed, a project budget is approved, the project manual comes into force and all project documents are drawn up. The project start is usually the interface between project preparation and project realisation.
Many of these points have already been covered in the previous chapters. However, it is important that the project manager summarises the many points discussed so that everyone can relate to them. The following could be used for this purpose:
- Business case: A business case is a detailed analysis of a planned project or investment. It includes the core tasks, economic aspects, risks and opportunities as well as alternative solutions. The business case is a crucial document for decision-makers as it provides a sound basis for the project decision.
- Project Canvas: This allows projects to be visualised in a simple and understandable way. This improves communication within the team and everyone is on the same page.
Kickoff meeting¶
The kick-off meeting is the official start of a project at which the objectives and framework conditions of the project are announced. After the kick-off meeting, the project can officially begin. The meeting should be attended by the project manager, all team members, as well as relevant stakeholders or the client. In this way, the project manager can ensure that everyone is working towards the common goals.
Work steps after the start of the project This is followed by the project review, where the project status is comprehensively reviewed at a specific point in time.
