WORK PACKAGE SHEET¶
The work package (WP) can be compared to a quotation and, like the quotation, it is used to plan, control and evaluate work performance. The formulation of WPs is not teamwork. It is advisable to assign this task to the person responsible for the work package (WP), whereby certain guidelines should be observed:
- Only one person should be responsible for each work package, regardless of how many people are working on it.
- In phase-orientated project management, it should be possible to assign each work package to a specific phase. Exceptions are cross-phase tasks, such as ongoing cost monitoring.
- Tasks that are outsourced should be labelled as independent subtasks or work packages.
- A clear specification should be formulated for each element of the work breakdown structure so that third parties can easily check whether the work package or subtask has already been carried out (otherwise the project manager will not be able to track the progress of the project).
- A work package should, if possible, be defined as a self-contained deliverable that is distinct from another and clearly and easily linked to other work packages.
Once the WPs have been worked out, plausibility checks and further coordination can take place.
