Exercises "Daily Scrum"
Summary¶
Here you will find the definitions of the most important terms from this chapter.
Impediment Backlog¶
All impediments are collected in the Impediment Backlog. The Scrum Master documents the impediments in the Impediment Backlog in order to work through and eliminate them at the appropriate time.
Forms of communication¶
-
Participative communication: Communication at eye level, everyone is included in the conversation and comments from conversation partners are considered equal.
-
Discursive communication: The comments of all interlocutors are listened to and reconciled.
-
Repressive communication: One person makes decisions and only informs interlocutors about them without them having a vote.
Test yourself¶
Answer the following questions independently. Please take your time and think carefully about what you would answer before revealing the solution.
What is another name for the Daily Scrum Meeting and why?
The Daily Scrum is also called the Daily Stand-up, because the Developers meet every day to talk about the project while standing.
Who must and who should be present at the Daily Scrum?
The presence of the Developers is essential, the Scrum Master should be present to ensure that the time, duration and constructive flow is maintained. The Product Owner or other persons can also participate in the meeting, but this is not necessary. In this case, neither the Product Owner nor other guests have any speaking rights.
Which three questions are answered during the Daily Scrum?
- What did I do yesterday?
- What do I plan to do today?
- Which impediments interfere with my workflow?
What is an Impediment Backlog?
All impediments are collected in the Impediment Backlog. The Scrum Master documents the impediments in the Impediment Backlog in order to work through and eliminate them at the appropriate time.
What is the difference between the Daily Scrum and a status meeting?
In a status meeting, a person is informed about the current progress or status, i.e. it is reported to this person. This implies that the person to whom it is reported is superior to the reporting person. The Daily Scrum takes place within the Scrum framework - a framework where there are no managers within the project. This means that reports cannot be made to superiors. In Daily Scrum, the Developers bring each other up to date and they do neither report to the Scrum Master nor, if present, to the Product Owner.
What are the rules that apply in Daily Scrum? What happens if participants do not follow the rules?
The Daily Scrum is time-boxed and lasts 15 minutes. It takes place while standing and is always held at the same time in the same place. It is the responsibility of the Developers. It is essential that the Developers show up on time for the meeting. If the Developers are late, the team can consider introducing sanctions.
Which forms of communication do you know? Which are used in Scrum and which are not?
There is participative, discursive and repressive communication. Participative and discursive communication are used in Scrum projects. Repressive communication must be avoided.
